Greetings Everyone!
Our days have become warm and windy - for the past two days the winds have been howling up to 40 mph. So our activities have been limited to indoor projects.
The swans have returned to Swans Cove from the lower Kenai River - its wonderful to see them flying and hearing them honking. We've also seen other song birds - but I've not identified them yet - they appear to belong to the Sparrow family.

Because our cabin faces south - the snow on our beach has melted down to the waters edge. The grounds around our cabin are now exposed - looking very much like early spring - lots of browns and yellows. |
|
Places on the lake are melting as well - this view is near our neighbors cabin - facing Swan Cove. Everyone continues to take readings on the ice thickness - some areas are now only 23 inches thick. |

Clancy came out to his cabin for a few days.
On Friday he invited all the Island folks over for barbecue ribs, chicken and roasted garlic potato's -- YUMMY!! YUMMY!!
All nine of us enjoyed the welcomed feast, good cheer and friendship - Thank you Clancy!
At the barbecue it snowed big wet flakes - eventually creating near whiteout conditions -- which caused four folks at the gathering to depart and head back across the lake. They had a GPS - so they made it safely back to the lower landing.
Although winter is definitely trying to stay - we are moving forward with spring activities. I've put my skis away and have been sorting through our winter clothing to determine what will go into storage. Ernie is double checking lumber packages, finishing up tongue and groove installation inside of our cabin, completing finish work to the inside of the sauna and workshed.
Take care!! |
